TheWorkers' Band Bio
TheWorkers are a Pop/Punk Band with an 80's Sound. They consist of Dan Greenwald (vocals, lead-rhythm guitar), Glenn Owens (lead-rhythm guitar), and Rich Aronowitz (drums). Dan and Glenn write for the project. TheWorkers originated in 1991 at Fordham University in the Bronx. Dan was a psych graduate student who played guitar. He was asked by undergrad, Dave Watts, to start a band. Dan's wife (now divorced) became the lead singer. She coined the band name-TheWorkers-because Dan was such a hard worker.
After graduation, Dan sought employment as a psychologist in the South Bronx. In 1994, he was posted at a school with a performing arts program. There he met choral director, Rich Santiago, who became his bass player. From '94-'95, Dan and Rich recorded 5 originals in a home studio on Long Island. They were self-released in a CD entitled, "All Directions". From 1996 on the band performed live. It went through multiple personnel changes. In 1998, TheWorkers re-entered the studio to record 5 new songs at SkyeLab in Times Square. Eighteen months later-in 2000- TheWorkers self-released their first full-length CD: "East Bronx Epiphany".
Dan realized that he needed to rebuild the band from scratch. In 2001 he met Glenn Owens, a songwriter and guitarist. Dan invited him to join the band. Impressed with rehearsal output, Dan and Glenn began to perform as an electric duo. After successfully showcasing at open mics, TheWorkers started to book gigs in lower Manhattan. In 2002, their CD was picked up by Tower Records in Yonkers, NY. It became a steady seller. Internet promotion led to airplay and positive reviews. In 2003, they added drummer Rich Aronowitz.
Currently, TheWorkers are in a live play mode. Also, they have re-entered SkyeLab Studios to begin recording their 2nd CD. The recording line-up includes: Jim Mussen (ex-Joan Osbourne drummer) and Mike Leslie on bass. Mike has toured extensively with Rick Derringer. Up-and-coming SkyeLab head engineer, Darren Keddy, is behind the controls.
