I was born in New Orleans the son of a Jazz Legend, âNickâ LaRocca composer of âTiger Ragâ and the leader of the âOriginal Dixieland Jazz Bandâ the band that made the first Jazz recording, the recording that changed forever how Music would be interpreted.
My first introduction to music and the Trumpet, (Cornet), was through my father, He gave me my first lessons when I was ten years old. He could not read or write music. His teaching method was original to say the least.
As I got older my father decided it was time for me to receive formal Trumpet lessons and for me to learn how to read music. I was sent to an instructor that was the conductor of the Loyola College band and played in the New Orleans Symphony, George Jensen.
I played dance music around New Orleans with many different groups until I had the opportunity to play at the âFamous Doorâ on Bourbon St. in the late 1960âs with a nationally known Jazz Trombone player, Santo Pecora.
In 1997 I started composing music, Jazz, Latin, And Ballardâs, many with lyrics. This CD, âJimmy LaRoccaâ, contains sixteen out of the 6390 tunes I have under copyright at this time.

Currently I am the leader of the âOriginal Dixieland Jazz Band®â and travel worldwide giving Jazz Concerts and appearing at many Jazz Festivals internationally.
My musical influences were my father, âNickâ LaRocca, and my trumpet instructor, George Jensen.
