Ask anyone at Lon Morris Jr. College, Stephen F. Austin State University, or Tarleton State University about Chase Cundiff and they'll probably tell you all about his stellar baseball career (notably All Conference Honors his senior year at TSU). Ask any of his past roommates or anyone who has heard him sing a tune or strum a guitar though, and you will certainly find them praising him for something other than America's Pastime. Born in Denton, Tx, Cundiff began playing guitar and writing songs with his father and brother. In the 10th grade at Weatherford High School, Cundiff played in a small band in local coffee shops, and even nailing gigs with the likes of The Casey Donahew Band and The Kyle Bennett Band. Throughout high school he jumped around to other small jam groups, but still spent most of his time in the batting cages. Once his freshman year at Lon Morris Jr. College in Jacksonville, Tx began, Cundiff met Josh Owen, a fellow dormitory inhabitant who helped "show him the ropes." Late-night jams and a constant thirst for more chords and guitar riffs fueled the pair through their freshman year. His sophomore year at SFA in Nacagdoches, Tx was where the bulk his writing really began. His final years of baseball were played at TSU in Stephenville, Tx. Between classes, practices and tournaments, much to the dismay of his coaches, Cundiff spent his nights and weekends in local bars playing every open-mic he could get his hands on. A loaned PA from a family friend, and a welcome seat in the van of an already traveling Stephenville band helped Cundiff get his music to a larger audience. Since his transfer to TSU in 2007 and his early trek on the road, Cundiff has since played with Susan Gibson, Maren Morris, Owen Temple, Roger Ray of Jason Boland and the Stragglers, JR Castro, Jesse Jennings, Bobby Duncan, Chance Anderson, The Cody Gill Band, 80 Proof, Jackson Taylor, Monte Montgomery, Dave Perez of the Tejas Brothers, Scott Copeland, George Norris, and many others. He has also been lead singer of the quickly progressing Russell and the Roadies, and is now working on a new project surrounding his own personal writings. His new recordings feature Warren Hood of The South Austin Jug Band, Tony Redman, Chris Gates, Ron Flint, Mark Donovan, Paul Liddel, Amy Lee, Stephanie Long and Marren Morris. Cundiff's influences include Robert Earl Keen, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Stoney Larue and The Arsenal, Reckless Kelly, The Black Crowes, The Band, Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and plenty more. His taste for Country music and hunger for Rock n' Roll add to the already eccentric flare of the Texas Music scene while still setting him apart from the rest of the Lone Star pack.
