Keep the vibes alive! http://www.Godsofmusic.com Reviews:- ARTIST: SOUNDWAVE CHILDREN SONG: RAMA GENRE: ELECTRONIC / ACID-TRANCE SIMILAR: ENERGY 52 B "Rama" is one hell of a song and you should listen to it right now. That's all I'm really inclined to say but that hardly makes for a review sob& Soundwave Children has done a splendid job of weaving together a sci-fi styled build-up with an anthem-like Acid/Trance groove to create a track that has the potential to captivate both the club kid and the home listener. The song starts off with a rolling bass drone accented by heavily echoed noises that almost sound like human voices. More cinematic sounds are introduced as "Rama" builds up in both volume and intensity b& then stops cold. The energy level goes into overdrive as a slightly squelchy analog pattern starts hammering overtop a booming kick drum. The main melody is soon introduced and serves as the basis for the rest of the song. However instead of simply playing ad infinitum the main melody is constantly filtered and altered as other analog sounds and airy chords play accompanying melodies. In a wholly unexpected move, Soundwave Children kills the percussion after only a short playtime, letting the song fade out slowly and stylistically over a 2-minute period. So what is so likable about this track? Several things: As previously mentioned, the sequencing is interesting. The build up was above average in terms of creating intensity and the unusual proportion between the booming section and the build down has an artistic appeal to the home listener. The ending is particularly soothing, which is exactly what one wants to hear after a few minutes of intense banging. The Sound engineering is damn near flawless, with heavy layering and extensive use made of sound effects. The main melody is catchy. It actually spans two bars instead of one and manages to follow a semi-algorithmic scheme without sounding boring. The cinematic sounds and atmosphere make the melody sound even thicker, meaning "Rama" is interesting to listen to even without the drums. The recording quality is very good (if not slightly bass heavy). When played loudly it fills the room with all kinds of different sounds and sonic nuances. My only complaint is that the main section of the tune (i.e. the section with the drum beat) is too short. The song starts its fadeout just when it seems appropriate to bring a different sound in and turn up the heat a bit more. In that sense "Rama" is a bit of a tease for the dance-hungry. The artist has already released a radio version of the song that does not have the extensive build sections, but a clubbier version with a longer portion of time set aside for the beats would still be beneficial. This is one of those rare occasions where it would actually be to a song's benefit to push the 8 or 9-minute mark. Regardless this song is fantastic. "Rama" is a fine example of a composer using technology to create art, as opposed to a computer user attempting to create art in order to facilitate his/her love of technology. If I saw a CD compilation featuring this song in the store I would purchase it without hesitation. --------- ARTIST: SOUNDWAVE CHILDREN SONG: TEKNO MASH GENRE: ELECTRONIC / ACID TEKNO SIMILAR: GOOD QUESTION. B Wow. I totally dug this song. I haven't heard a lot of acid, but this made me want to hear more. The synths are just phenomenal, what's more, they were apparently recorded live! Kudos to these artists. I did found this song to be a tad long. Although... considering that the melody was relatively monotonic, and really the only variations which could keep you interested were the cutoffs, I was not completely bored by the end. Maybe a radio edit guys? The sounds were great, although you could tell it was recorded. There was a bit of a reverb which I thought took away from the quality of the sound, but maybe it was intentional. Anyway, I really liked this song. It's better than any acid song I've heard to date (I've been searching napster and the likes for something similar, but most of what I've found is total crap). Good job! ------------ ARTIST: SOUNDWAVE CHILDREN SONG: AFTERBURNER READY GENRE: ELECTRONIC / ACID TECHNO SIMILAR: NO-ONE OBVIOUS Ah yes, what to say... This is a great Techno tune. It will certainly appeal to fans of the genre, but perhaps lacks enough originality to appeal to anyone who isn't. But this is acid techno of the best calibre; you got a heavy, fast synth line with keeps banging throughout the song, a totally phat bass beat and some freaky effects thrown into the mix as well. It's also well mixed and well produced, and this could very easily have a place in any Techno DJ's set. Definitely something to get people moving on the dancefloor. Anton Wulfen ----------- ARTIST: SOUNDWAVE CHILDREN SONG: PLAN 4 ALL (:YES ITS LONG:) GENRE: ELECTRONIC / DANCE/ACID/TEKNO SIMILAR: NOTHING I'VE EVER HEARD. B Soundwave Children admits this is a long haul. And it is; maybe something you might want to trip out to?.... If you're into that sort of thing. Plan 4 all is a soothing, melodic, almost ambient track. There's a ton of layered melodies weaving their way in and out of the track; sometimes with the soft reverberated piano, and sometimes the krisp 303. Since this is such an ambient track, I think it's almost a shame the kick is SO intense. It's really thumpin' which makes for a kind of conflict within the song. The melody's saying "Sunrises and white beaches" and the kick is saying "don't just sit there; eat it!" (American Psycho anyone?) Anyway..... At some points, its also a bit discordant. Er, I imagine this was intentional, but it doesn't sound intentional, which means it sounds kinda messy. Near the end (10 minutes in), the song takes a turn for the dark, which I thought was cool. After I'd surrendered myself to the track, it starts showing me things I don't want to see. Or something appropriately Willy Wonka-ish.... (What's with me and Movie analogies today?) I'm not sure I would dance to this track. It's more like mood music. Anyway, check it out, if for no other reason than to hear the 303's. "Who wants a hug?" -Dave in Port Moody ,Trance control , Orbital , Beltram , Underworld , FSOL , LFO , Josh wink , Prodigy spring to mind!
