There is no hiding in "Fishin' for Answers," and put simply, that's the appeal of his music."Fishin'" is not an album that fits tightly into any particular genre. There's plenty of pickin' but the album hangs onto threads of country, blues, folk and bluegrass -- laced with mandolin, fiddle, steel guitar and harmonica. The song titles read more like the repercussions of an all-night bender than a set list -- "Thought It was Dead," "Empty Bottles" and "Somethin' Lil' Stoopid," to name a few -- fitting, in that, Walter describes his music as "a bottle of bourbon and a head-full of questions." But there's something deeper than the glossed-over tunes that frequent today's FM radio. Walter's Dylan-esque voice and relentless willingness to venture into tough topics result in a few songs sad enough to make you tear in your beer. They're countered, however, with just the sort of feel-good tunes you'd expect from a bar-bangin', blue-collar boy.Songwriting, for Walter, is synonymous with living -- he writes because he has to. In other words, it's the answer he's out fishin' for -- and he's caught a big one!
