Actor Slash Model describes the collaborative work of Simon Strikeback, an activist and educator, and Madsen Minax, an artist and filmmaker. Together they are band as well as a duet filmmaking team.

Through both music and film Actor Slash Model addresses issues of gender identity, gender performance and politics, a sex positive ideal, and the art making process. As a filmmaking duo, Actor Slash Model is currently producing a documentary chronicling gender identity and performance as it surrounds musicianship. The research for this project includes conducting in depth interviews, documenting the performances, rehearsals, and everyday interactions of trans and gender variant musicians across the United States and Canada. Through this project they seek to reveal a particularly active and vibrant realm of community and artistic excellence. As a band, Actor Slash Model creates fun, quirky, entertaining music exploring gender and sex positivity as well as the most basic inspirations to all people: love, heartbreak, joy, pain, etc., set up in what they like to call an âIndie-Grassâ musical style, often incorporating costumes and vaudvillian performative styles.
Together Madsen and Simon create a clean and succinct blend of skillful musicianship, captivating rhythms, alluring harmonies, witty lyrics and overall charming entertainment.

Their stage performance alone has been said to be "completely entrancing," as their connective energy and interactions are humorous, yet concise and natural - the music is clean, tight and penetrative, yet Actor Slash Model is raw, real and fun. The performers are able to blend their seamless music into a comedic act of sorts, as their songs range in content from "nontraditional" love affairs, to fake moustaches, to homoerotic cowboys, to pseudo metal hair ballads and back again.

The two draw from bluegrass and folk roots, yet also incorporate aspects of non traditional independent music, and therefore like to dub their genre "Indie-Grass." Though Actor Slash Model utilizes a playful means, often tongue in cheek, their lyrics convey deep political ideas, emotion and conviction in every line.
