âThe Danaanâ was released Spring Equinox 2009. Almost 5 years in the making, through 3 cities, and with much love, âThe Danaanâ was delivered. This is truly a remarkable CD, sensual, compelling, and unlike anything in todayâs music arena.
The music has been described as powerful and other-worldly. It takes the listener on a journey, inspiring and erotic in nature.
All music was written by world-class percussionist, Hans Janowitz, and sung by Shannon Day.
Shannon has been compared to the likes of Annie Lennox, Elizabeth Frasier, Tori Amos, and Lisa Gerrard. All songs on âThe Danaanâ were divined in the moment, and created as a vessel for inspiration.

Hans was trained in classical piano by his professional pianist grandfather (also named Hans Janowitz) starting at the age of six. He has also studied Irish guitar with fellow Portlander Dan Compton, and has trained in Middle-Eastern percussion, strings, woodwinds and various other instruments. Past musical projects include the bands âLovenotes & Lithiumâ and âCharluxâ, and he was a core musician for the Tribal Bellydance troupe Gypsy Caravan and is featured on their CD âQuestâ. Hans also directs a Creative Commons cooperative musical project called The Aught Naughts. Shannon Day sang her first CD at the age of 17 on Nu SHooz Grammy nominated âI Canât Waitâ. She is also the lead vocalist on âIllumine â Enter the Lightâ and featured vocalist on âPurekane â Lounge Sessionsâ. She has been a background vocalist and commercial artist on hundreds of projects. Shannon, is also the composer of âChakra Meditationâ series, and has studied sound/vibrational healing with the likes of Jonathan Goldman and James DâAngelo. She is the daughter of world-renowned opera singer, Janet Day, and sister to pop 80âs star Valerie Day.
