Doug Clark & The Hot Nuts are a long lived R&B party band that has maintained a loyal and passionate following since its inception in 1955---first coalescing in the Chapel Hill, NC area, and moving on to national and even international fame. The act recorded 9 albums on their own Gross label, beginning with âNuts To Youâ in 1961, and wrapping up with âWith A Hat Onâ in 1969 . The LPâs all had a similar theme of blending racey joke- telling (mild by todayâs comedy standards), and well known tunes of the day, rewritten with their own suggestive, ribald lyrics. The group, and its outrageous approach to entertaining, ultimately became the inspiration for the fictitious Otis Day & Nights group of Animal House movie fame, a lasting tribute to one of the great icons of 60âs culture in the southeastern U. S.
