Details:
David Lamb was born in 1935 and grew up in Yakima, Washington. He began to compose when he was six years old, having discovered staff-lined pages in the exercise book where his piano teacher wrote his scales and finger exercises. Since then he has composed in many forms: chamber music, orchestra works, dramatic pieces, including works to be performed by children. David's chamber music CDs are available for download from www.classical.net. (Search for Lamb)
In 1976 daughter Barbara gave him a violin and told him to learn to play it. He was on his way to Sweden at the time and learned to play in the context of Swedish folkdance tradition. Since then, Barbara and David have played together from time to time, especially at Skandia folk dance events in Seattle. SWEDISH DESIGN is the result of this father-daughter collaboration: twenty-one original dance tunes in the Swedish folk style. One of the bagpipe tunes on this CD was recorded by David and the Kronos Quartet.
Barbara grew up in Seattle WA where she learned to play the fiddle, first cutting her bow hair on Scandinavian dance tunes. She joined a bluegrass band when she was 15 after winning the state and regional fiddling championships. Fast forwarding about twelve years, she was a founding member of a yodeling cowgirl band in the late 80s called Ranch Romance. They toured as k.d.lang's opening act for most of a year, made some records for Sugar Hill, and then she quit and moved to Nashville in the 90s. She had her own deal with Sugar Hill for a couple of recording's worth, then started her own label, Lots of Coffee Records.
David and Barbara are joined by Robert Bowlin, (piano and guitar) Linelle Milatchkov (guitar) on several tunes plus a whole bunch of Swedish style fiddlers on #21.
