MAR SALÁ is a music project devised primarily by Marta Hernández, with Liz Taub and Alfonso Cid. A latin sound, prevailing the Rumba flamenca, Brazilian rhythms and Spanish pop is their brand. Based in Brooklyn,MAR SALÁ is a cross over between the musical air of Seville and the polychromatic winds of New York City.
âPrimaveraâ is a fun, colorful and sensual album that has gathered some of the most accomplished musicians in New York City. Marta Hernández, a singer/songwriter from Spain, has composed all these vibrant themes that carry the hot rhythms of her native Seville in Primavera, beautifully arranged primarily by producer and percussionist Antonio de Vivo. The compositions range from Flamenco tunes with Brazilian overtones to Jazzy and Pop songs. Her lyrics are about universal themes such as love, relationships and both the bright and dark side of life, written both in English and Spanish. Liz Taub, a native of New York City, plays violin, viola and mandolin, adding a soothing, playful and poetic tone to the entire album. Alfonso Cid, a native of Seville, Spain, plays the flute, giving some of the compositions a unique depth and sound as well as an authentic Flamenco flavor. Antonio de Vivo brings the hot sound of his Caribbean blood through his percussion, giving shape and character to the compostions. This CD is enhanced by one of the best bass players in NYC, Pedro Giraudo. He is a native from Argentina and his precision and virtuosity are noticeable throughout the whole album, given his unique and personal sound. Gustavo âChachoâ Schartz, contributes to the distinctive Brazilian sound in âMira que tú eresâ, where his guitar rhythms bring us to the Brazilian shores. The final product is a fresh, original and eclectic album that caresses your soul and invites you to dance. A breath of fresh air.
