With their 11 song self-titled debut, Mute Witness has burst onto the scene with a phenomenal indie-rock album featuring soaring vocals, captivating harmonies, and a dynamic rhythm section that seamlessly walks the line between pounding drums and distinctive musical taste. Released on their own Parapet Records in March of 2009, âMute Witnessâ reaches new heights with a fusion of styles from across the rock spectrum, creating its own significant sound. Mute Witness was founded by local Chico musicians Rett Mathews and Ryan Maker in July of 2007. Both are phenomenal vocalists with an electric songwriting chemistry that has birthed something entirely unique, yet deep within its roots remains a sense of familiarity reminiscent of the writing of John Lennon and the mysticism & lyrical play of Elliot Smith. Together their musical ideas are fully realized with the accompaniment of Tino Marrufoâs ferocious drumming, the musical diversity and groove infused bass lines of Daniel Nelson, and the growling, yet angelic, baritone voice of Michael Lee. Every song is highlighted by the playful melodies shared between Mathews and Maker, solidifying Mute Witness as a one-ofâa-kind experience.
