Although this is Janie Brannonâs first solo CD, her voice may seem very familiar. Janie worked for over 10 years as a background singer in Nashville. She was on many hit records such as âCountry Bumpkinâ, âRoll On, Big Mamaâ and many more. Janie was also on âThat Nashville Musicâ TV show for several years and sang backup to nearly every major country artist. Janie also toured with Danny Davis and The Nashville Brass.
âHonky-Tonk Memoriesâ is a CD with a variety of old and new songs written by such legendary writers as Buddy Mize, Dallas Frazier, Doodle Owens, Lou Rochelle, Don Mitchell and Merle Haggard to mention a few.
As is the norm with Hillside Records, the players are a âwhoâs whoâ of country musicians and include: Lloyd Green, Weldon Myrick, Jay Dee Maness and Gary Carpenter on pedal steel; Jay Lacy, Jimmy Capps and Jimmy Colvard on electric guitar; Ray Edenton, Steve Chapman and Jay Lacy on acoustic guitar; âPigâ Robbins, Tony Migliore and Tim Alexander on keyboards; John Rains and Buddy Harman on drums; Dale Morris, Jr. and Buddy Spicher on fiddle, Bob Moore and Justin Trevino on bass; Leon Rhodes and Harold Bradley on tic-tack and Lloyd Green on dobro. The backup singers are Dottie DeLeonibus, Amber Digby and Janie Brannon.
âHonky-Tonk Memoriesâ was recorded at The Sound Emporium, Nashville, TN and Eagle Audio in Ft. Worth, TX. Mastering was completed in Tallahassee, FL.
We at Hillside Records hope you enjoy Janie Brannonâs debut CD as much as we have.

Here is the first solo CD by a very talented vocalist who has been on so many Nashville recording sessions as a background vocalist. Her name is Janie Brannon and her album is loaded with 13 tunes of Texas dance hall and country music. The back-up band consists of some wonderful musicians.
The album features four legendary steel guitar players, Lloyd Green, Weldon Myrick, Jay Dee Maness and Gary Carpenter and two very hot fiddle players, Dale Morris, Jr. and Buddy Spicher. Lloyd also plays Dobro. Ray Edenton, Steve Chapman and Jay Lacy play acoustic guitar. Jay is also playing electric guitar, as is Jimmy Capps, Jimmy Colvard and Grady Martin. John Rains and recently deceased legend, Buddy Harman are the drummers. Pig Robbins, Tony Migliore and Tim Alexander are the pianists while Leon Rhodes and Harold Bradley play tic-tac bass. Bob Moore and Justin Trevino are the bassists. Janie, as well as Dottie DeLeonibus and Amber Digby do background vocals.
The album opens with Buddy Mizeâs composition Honky-Tonk Memories. Also in that style and from Buddyâs pen is Workinâ my Way Through a Heartache. Other Texas dance hall sounds are Justin Trevino's Stranger in Our Home and two gems written by Lou Rochelle and Doodles Owens, the Darrell McCall classic Thereâs Still a Lot of Love in San Antone and the lesser known gem, I am Love. Janie does a true classic Tennessee Waltz, from the pens of Pee Wee King and Redd Stewart. This was a huge multi-million Patti Page hit as well as a hit for Pee Weeâs band with Redd on vocal and a young Roy Ayres on steel guitar. Also from Patti Page, Janie borrows Vaughn Hortonâs Mockingbird Hill. This was also originally a huge duet hit for Elton Britt and Rosalie Allen. Then there are the country sounds, Merle Haggardâs Iâve Got a Yearning, Dallas Frazier and Doodles Owens Let Your Lovinâ do the Talkinâ and the Jeanne Pruett classic, Satin Sheets. The final three tunes in the album are also country, Hooked on a Feelinâ, Letâs Be Friends, Not Lovers and I Donât Believe Youâre Ever Cominâ Home.
