Iâll admit it: three studio albums and one live project deep, Iâm an unwavering Future supporter. But, Iâm also extremely critical about what I listen to, particularly whether the music is well married to the words. Iâve found that whether youâre into R&B, Rap, Hip-Hop or Spoken Word with an emphasis on the message or just looking to bump to a hot beat, all of that is encompassed in Futureâs fourth studio album Spit Personality.



The album begins with an eager vibe where the beats take control of your system while maintaining a balance that doesnât overshadow the words. Take for example âTruth Isâ where Futureâs flow merges together perfectly with the instrument-blaring melody.



âIâm a believer in pants that fit and right-size drawers⦠I wake up everyday and put on my perfections with my flaws⦠I donât play dress-up for applause âcause I know that my outfit donât got nothing to do with yours⦠but, some folks canât help but try and show off⦠and, please believe, itâs their loss⦠âcause make-up donât make you who you want to be⦠itâs just Maybelline⦠just make believeâ¦â
-âBefore My Time (Back To The Future)



As the album continues to âDance Poemâ and âIf The Shoe Fitsââboth focused on negating the media and societyâs emphasis on stereotypical acceptanceâthe advocate side of the artist becomes clear. The situations are displayed in a way that is thought-provoking and sometimes comical.



Mid-album, the tempo gradually winds down and the messages are provided at a smooth, saxophone like pace as evident by âMy Observationâ, a piece that explores spoken word poetry in its purest form versus the financial âcrazeâ that some âartistsâ are making it. This sets a tone for âOde To Nas (Just Getting Warm)â which gives clearance for my favorite piece on the album, âBefore My Time (Back To The Future)â. The flow of this track is so soothingly melodic and further opens your mind up to receive the message in âRoller Coastersâ.

my face⦠this is your favorite place, remember?... but, you donâtâ¦â

âRoller Coastersâ delves into the human capacity to love beyond a relationshipâs termination in a three-dimensional sense that, despite having it explained to me, I still canât completely wrap my mind around. Each time that I hear it, a different nuance is revealed in something as small as the placement of a pair of underwear. Of course, Future characteristically follows this condensed piece up with âLetter To My Wife 3â, and if youâve heard the first two pieces in this epic conversation, no explanation needs to be given. If you havenât, I assure you itâs better to experience it than to read about it.

Full circle, this album gives the quality and intensity of work that Future supporters have come to fondly appreciate, while creating an absolute introduction for newcomers.
