Details:
Born in Port au Prince, Haiti, Saint Ag âs (Stag) family moved to Washington, DC in pursuit of the American dream of prosperity. Thereafter, he and his family moved to Langley Park, MD, a Washington, DC metropolitan area. However, as an adolescent growing up in Langley Park, Stag found himself performing activities that went against his parents will. After realizing the conditions of the area and certain deficiencies of the education system, his parents took action to move to Montgomery County, a Washington, DC suburb. Stag credits his upbringing and environment for the content and in depth analysis that is frequently revered in his music.
Stag recalls an early love for composing rhymes over his favorite hip hop songs. As his writing improved, he paid closer attention to the cadence, speed and style of rhymes over beats. He prided himself with understanding the emotions of artists as it related to their message. Many of Stags early rhymes were battle raps, laden with metaphors and similes. Respectfully, realizing the lack of success from such artistry, he shied away from such rhyming. Instead of using punch lines to make threats he used them to make a point.
Stag states, âRap is a form of poetry that allows people to share insight to the creative voice of society.â He cites The Adventures of Slick Rick as one of his favorite albums. Stag comments that âHey Young Worldâ has a conscience message, yet its aesthetic sound does well in speaking to the youth of the world. âIf you listen to that song right now, itâs still relevant today.â He comments that he too aspires to make songs that are timeless. Lyrically, he desires to be like KRS-1, Slick Rick, Rakim, Notorious BIG, 2pac, Big L and countless other prolific lyricists.
With his strong business sense, he began to formulate songs targeted to both hip-hop and non-hip hop enthusiasts and enticed these listeners to give constructive feedback of his works. In 2000, he and a group of like-minded artists started the hip-hop group, The Sinit. Stagâs attention to detail and creativity allowed him to cater fully to a target audience within the Washington, DC area. As a result, over 200 people turned out for many of their local bar and club performances and always with eager anticipation. With the group, Stag was instrumental in organizing shows, promoting The Sinit, VeRs & Stag albums and overall sharpening his business logic. Stag has performed on numerous albums with The Sinit and released two solo EPâs entitled Déjà Vu with the hit song âThe Leakâ and Muscles with the hit song âSometimes II;â part of his FirstEP and Beyond series. Recently, Stag contributed to VeRs' ControVeRsy mixtape and released Beyond the FirstEp to promote THESTAGNATION.COM. Currently , he is preparing for the release of Sex, Drugs and Democracy. Volume 1: Anomie.
