Details:
Symphony of the Universe â Companion Soundtrack got its start in an unusual way. A few years back I was contacted by a British magazine company to compose some âchilled electronicaâ for their deep sea diving DVD magazine. I undertook the task and the song was approved but to the best of my knowledge the project never got off the ground. Fast-forward to mid-2008 and my friend Molly A. Durst asked me if Iâd consider doing some companion music for YouTube videos she was planning to release to promote her comic book series Symphony of the Universe. I decided to dig up the song I did for Fathom 1 DVD and re-worked it to better suit Mollyâs project. As time went, I kept returning to Molly with new ideas and compositions and eventually the idea of releasing an actual soundtrack was born.

âSymphony of the Universeâ is track 01 on Symphony of the Universe - Companion Soundtrack. To date this is the longest song I've ever composed and it seems to have taken on a life of itself early in the writing stages. Originally this was the only song attached to / inspired by Molly A. Durst's esoteric comic book of the same name but as I worked on other projects I kept getting inspired to put a whole album together.

âConspiracies Abound, Part One: Of Angels and Menâ is track 02 on the soundtrack. While working on some piano arrangements for another project, I discovered the riff that became the core of this song as well as Part 2 and that led to the development of the whole CD. One of my favorite groups â Juno Reactor â is a heavy inspiration sonically on this song while the title is derived from Book 1, Chapter 3 (Send Me an Angel) of the Symphony of the Universe series.

âConspiracies Abound, Part Two: Storms and Dreamsâ is the third song on the album. While intended to be listened to back-to-back with Part 1, I feel this is a truly solid composition. The group Juno Reactor was a major influence sonically on this song while the title is derived from Book 1, Chapter 4 (Storms and Dreams) of the Symphony of the Universe series.

âAngels, Demons and Cryptic Codesâ was the last song written for the soundtrack. I was inspired a little past midnight one Sunday evening in early April and decided the CD needed an extra track to push it past the 30-minute mark. I borrowed ideas from a certain popular series of novels-turned-movies for the title because they fit nicely with Molly's comic. Sonically I decided to deviate a bit from the previous tracks and add a little more upbeat and rhythm as a nod back to some of my earlier works like Autumnal Slumber (Bailey Records / April 1, 2003) and Slade Chronicles: Riftwalker â Official Mix-Tape.

âSymphony of the Universe [The Fathom Edit]â was written back in 2006. This is the original version of the song as composed as background music for Fathom 1 DVD (a deep sea diving magazine). âThe Fathom Editâ is a stripped down, shorter version of the title track in featuring all the chilled beats but none of the orchestration.

âBailey Records Fanfare / Beginnings & Endingsâ is the 6th and final track on Symphony of the Universe - Companion Soundtrack. In 2006, with the release of both the Slade Chronicles: Riftwalker â Official Mix-Tape and Amazing Universe â The Superheroic Music EP, T.W. Cory and I composed the âBailey Records Fanfare.â The purpose of the Fanfare is to tie all our soundtracks together under a common âumbrella,â just as movie studios like Fox and Universal do with their opening fanfares. This is the sixth CD that the âBailey Records Fanfareâ has appeared on, and as with the previous incarnations it includes an album-specific tag ending. The tag, in this case, was inspired by Book 1, Chapter 5 of the Symphony of the Universe comic series.
