Over the past twenty years, I have always had in one form or another some kind of home â¨studio. The first one was in the top-floor apartment we had in Silverlake (which had a view of the downtown L.A. skyscrapers from the living room). Most of the early stuff I made in my studio sounded like the singer and band were underwater, but I enjoyed it anyway. It was such a power trip to be the entire orchestra and choir at midnight when everyone else was asleep. When Jerry and I moved over to where we are now, my studio was set up in the back bedroom. After my Mom died, I got a little money and went and got an ART mixing board and replaced my original Fostex four-track cassette recorder with an Alessis 8-track ADAT and added an E-Mu Proteus Orchestral Sounds to the Roland and E-Mu World Sounds I already had.
The sound quality and my recording technique improved a little after I got the ADAT. A friend gave me an ART effects processor that I think must have fallen off a truck, because he made me promise never to take it anywhere to be repaired. Luckily, the only thing that malfunctioned on it was a MIDI feature I didnât need anyway. I got some very useful echo and harmonizer effects on that thing. I loved it, and I still have it.

I have organized all the material in this collection into a crude date sequence. The list begins from nearly 20 years ago up to the last song which I completed a few weeks ago. All but the first two pieces were actually produced in the bedroom, and the first two might as well have been. They came from the back room next to the bedroom in the old Silverlake place.
I did everything on these recordings including writing the lyrics, composing the music and performing the music tracks and vocals. There is distortion that wasnât intended and some that was. Transferring these all into digital format has had its own catalogue of misadventures. Iâm not terribly fond of wire.
