Folk rock that brings you into the infinite moment; sometimes gently, sometimes with a real moving rhythm, always with a consciousness that cuts through time and space.
13 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Folk Rock, WORLD: World Fusion
Details:
The Songs of Vasistha are a journey of sound and awareness. Some songs are contemplative and some really rock as the CD explores timeless consciousness. Although unlike ambient new age music, the Songs of Vasistha can bring the listener into the moment. They are great for meditation or house cleaning, and the last several songs are a portal for dissolving into infinite consciousness, meditative awareness, or sleep.
The "Songs of Vasistha" were inspired by the teachings and stories of Vasistha's Yoga, an ancient Sanskrit text that is described as the earliest work with the highest wisdom of Vedanta, or Jnana yoga. It is the instruction of the Sage Vasistha to Sri Rama as recorded by the poet Valmiki. In more recent times, this wisdom has been lived by Ramana Maharshi, J. Krishnamurti, and Sri Nisargadatta. This music offers a form of satsanga with these holy ones.
The songs were composed in a few short weeks (after a lifetime of contemplation and self-inquiry) and were recorded in the high desert of Arivaca, Arizona in the energetic shadow of the sacred mountain Baboquivari. They are performed by the band Kaivaly at the Desert Light Labyrinth in Arivaca, Arizona.
Kaivaly is a transliteration of a Sanskrit word for absolute freedom. Creating this music has been an absolute joy for the band; Mary Scott on vocals and acoustic guitar, Charlie Tucker on lead guitar and bass and Peter Ragan on percussion.
