Like that drawer in your kitchen which contains everything from safety pins to a screwdriver, St. Louis Missouri has long been a bottleneck of many ideas, visions, ethnic groups and traditions. It truly is a gateway. It's influenced from the East, the South, the Old World and with an eye always on the West. Growing up there as a songwriter can have a swirling, kaleidoscope effect on stylistic diversity. My songs are a reflection of that. There is no distinct genre. The thing that unifies my songwriting is the place I go to look for them, where they come from. I go to my source, No matter what I call it, it seems to have it's voice in my heart. Mine are songs from the junk drawer of the heart.

Originally I picked up the guitar looking for a way to ease the trauma of being 13. I had no conscious idea then that I was making one of the greatest decisions of my life. With no previously known musicality anywhere in my family I was quite surprised to find that I quickly understood music. The learning has never stopped. Music changed my understanding of who I am, what life seems to be and who everyone else is. For a 13 year old it was pretty good thinking.

I have played for a living ever since and continue to this day. I am deeply grateful to have had the chance to sing thousands of songs, in countless places. All those longs sets in smokey rooms gave me the chance to deeply learn what makes a song singable. Songs have a very special place in the art and lives of all people and I hold the pursuit of a better song in high regard. How far down the rabbit hole I dare I go? Happy to know there is a long way still ahead.
