What I got instead blew me away. Brophy, the mouthpiece of ââ¬ÅThe Pricksââ¬Â, is a white boy from Orange County who spits out punk as fuck rapâ⬦ thatââ¬â¢s right I said rapââ¬Â (WHM Nuthouse records)
Put aside the usual stereotypes, things like style, classification, and genre donââ¬â¢t apply to ââ¬ÅThe Pricksââ¬Â music. Incorporating the rhythmic beats of early hip hop roots, with fast, hard vocals aggressively delivered from a punk rock mouth, we like to call it, ââ¬Ådigital punkââ¬Â. ââ¬ÅThe Pricksââ¬Â live up to their namesake, with gutter punk riffs, crude who-gives-a shit lyrics, and breakneck speed drum breaksââ¬Â (Skinnie Magazine review), which give them a sound all their own.
The collaboration consists of T-Nut who is the backbone of the group; he is responsible for all of the production for the band. T-Nut has an impressive west coast hip hop background, and 15 years experience in the industry working with major artists, such as ââ¬ÅThe Eastsiderzââ¬Â, ââ¬ÅKokaneââ¬Â, ââ¬ÅDaz Dilingerââ¬Â, and ââ¬ÅSnoop Doggââ¬Â, he is the mastermind behind the beats. The entire production is put together in a hip-hop fashion, in the studio. Brophy brings the vocals influenced strangely by late 80ââ¬â¢s punk rock bands like ââ¬ÅThe Clashââ¬Â, ââ¬ÅThe Ramonesââ¬Â, and ââ¬ÅScreeching Weaselââ¬Â. Brophy boasts anti-everything lyrics displaying a frustration of being a social outcast in America, and with ta passion and protest to scream F*$ authority! And live each day like itââ¬â¢s your last. Unsurprisingly, this message boasts loud and clear with todays generation of punk rock and hip hop fans alike, providing a voice, and people are reacting to it. The response on myspace.com alone has been outrageous, receiving over 300 plays per day, people are begging for more.
The live performances are extremely high energy; ââ¬ÅThe Pricksââ¬Â incorporate a full band to accomplish a sound that is as high energy as Brophyââ¬â¢s lyrics, and T-Nutââ¬â¢s beats. With Yoch on drums, Dre and Nisan on rythym and lead guitars. Ozzie and Chris on bass and keys. With all these elements in play, ââ¬ÅThe Pricksââ¬Â live performance is something not to be described as a show, but more of an experience ââ¬ÅThe Pricksââ¬Â perform anywhere on the West Coast. Ranging from house parties to packed venues such as ââ¬ÅB.B Kings Blues clubââ¬Â(where they won the battle of the bands), ââ¬ÅClub Tempestââ¬Â, ââ¬ÅThe Rocââ¬Â, and ââ¬ÅThe Whiskyââ¬Â(April 07), and the ââ¬ÅFloat the Boatââ¬Â festival on the Queen Mary. Recently they have been featured on the world famous KROQââ¬â¢s localââ¬â¢s only show with Kat Corbett. Kat thought so much of the band she had them into the studios at KROQ for a taped interview, which will air in early 07. ââ¬ÅThe Pricksââ¬Â new album ââ¬ÅDonââ¬â¢t Want To Be Usedââ¬Â will be released in February 2007
