The Haints are an old-time band, performing together in 2007 and playing festivals, concerts and camps since. The Haints are:
- Erynn Marshall (Galax, VA) - fiddle, vocals and uke
- Pharis Romero (Cobble Hill, BC) â lead vocals, guitar
- Jason Romero â banjo, glead vocals, banjo-uke.

Their first CD project, Shout Monah, was released in May 2009 and features Appalachian style fiddle and banjo music, old time vocal duets/trios and more. The band has a penchant for obscure, old tunes and songs that are seldom heard in todayâs day and age - often stringband tunes from the era of early radio and before.

The word âhaintâ is a southern expression for a spirit or ghost⦠a suitable title for a group who is dedicated to playing old-time music that traces itâs roots way back. The Haints have gleaned inspiration and repertoire from a wealth of archive recordings as well as learned their music first hand within living folk traditions. From bluesy fiddle & banjo numbers, lyrical vocal duets to silver dagger ballads, the Haints Old-time Stringband want to share their favorite, southern tunes and songs with you.

While striving to play this unique repertoire with care, spirit and detail we also add ourselves to the music and make it our own. The music never ceases to inspire us, engage our creativity, and challenge our musicality to rise to new levels. Sometimes we have learned tunes from favorite archive recordings and other times from older tradition bearers â fiddlers or singers who are no longer with us. The music lives on, adapting and breathing in a living tradition of which we are a part. This music, in our hands, crosses borders, genres and merges our diverse backgrounds, artistic artistic aims and group vision into a whole known as The Haints.
