Details:
Hailing from the Sunshine State, Gainesville to be exact, Danny Perez more commonly known as D.P. is ensuring his presence is felt as both a lyricist and a producer within the Hip-Hop world. With an acute passion for writing and composing music, D.P. has been diligently mastering his craft since the age of ten and now firmly situated in the twenty first century, he believes he has perfected his signature sound.
Drawing inspiration from a diverse selection of artists like the Smashing Pumpkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Billy Joel, Johnny Cash to the staples of todayâs Hip-Hop diet such as Jay Z and 2pac D.P.âs interpretation of music is a fusion of dark melodic piano riffs and sparse drum patterns combined with soulful lyrics. It is this concoction that has encouraged the musician to venture out and work on music for other local artists successfully.
Even though armed and able in the studio, it is the booth that D.P. feels most at home. With sales from his mixtapes Running Man and The Return securing over 2,500 downloads and 2,500 hard copy sales obviously he is doing something right. With the intent of reaching out to his fans through his words and delivery, D.P. has a strong sense of self-belief that comes from being a fan first and foremost. âWriting music is just natural to me," he declares. "With that being said, Hip-Hop which I grew up on, is how I express myself and you can only hope that people connect with what you give them.â
His stage presence is as equally impressive as his recording capabilities having performed at sold out venues throughout his region including The Atlantic in his hometown. Yet while romancing fans and heading up his own Sosic Record label, D.P. has a busy year ahead of him where he hopes to formally introduce himself to Hip-Hop connoisseurs on a national and global level.
âfortyeighhours.â is the project that will act as his calling card as he takes on that task. The eleven-track offering was produced, written and recorded in just 48 hours and is conceptually based around time. Boasting tracks such as The Mirror, Sensi and The Future this project is what D.P. considers a natural progression for him as both an artist and a musician.
âOn these tracks there is definitely more emphasis on the music, structure, progression, melodies and themes compared to the usual braggadocio rapper type material that we have become familiar with,â he explains. And with his Death of a Salesman/Birth of a Nation destined for a Summer release and his debut full-length album Renaissance Man coming in November 2009, D.P. hopes the music will speak for itself.
âMusic can be so introspective at times, you just hope that by looking at yourself and touching on the things that you are going through that it will encourage a universal meaning for others,â he concludes.
