Formed in the spring of 2008, the sam marshall trio is quickly gaining attention within the roots music community and beyond. With sam marshall on guitar and vocals, bennett kling on upright bass, and collin andresen on drums, the trio achieves a sound that is clearly planted in the blues while constant streams of jazz, rock, and even hip-hop bubble just under the surface. Bellingham, washington's whats up! magazine's recently remarked, "marshall is a gifted blues guitarist whose style reflects a firm foundation in the blues, while moving with a jazzy, almost-improvisational progression. "

before forming the sam marshall trio, marshall toured for sometime throughout the northwestern united states as a solo musician. During this time, he was able to develop his own unique style while absorbing the immense talent that he found himself surrounded by on the road. He has shared bills with such luminous artists as robben ford, tony furtado, curtis salgado, too slim & the taildraggers, and joe mcmurrian to name a few. But it was in the spring of 2008 that marshall felt it was time to explore a larger sound. Marshall met andresen and kling (andresen and kling have played together in numerous groups including the jazz underground big band, seattle rock group the spitlicks, and this history of playing together is evident in the work of smt as well) and after a couple of rehearsals, the trio quickly realized their genre-bending sound was worth taking on the road. Since 2008 the trio has been doing just that and has already shared bills with notable artists such as tony furtado, too slim & the taildraggers, and joe mcmurrian and as a result their music is quickly catching fire with many diverse audiences. And here, some of the blues-based grooving roots music of smt is now available on their debut album floorwalker.
