Passionate, melodic Celtic music from Wales. Beautiful vocals and fiery instrumentals
12 MP3 Songs in this album (43:51) !
Related styles: FOLK: Celtic Folk, FOLK: British Folk
People who are interested in Altan Malinky should consider this download.
Details:
âTrosnantâ is the bandâs first album with their new singer/fiddle player Meriel Field and, for the first time, there are songs on an Allan Yn Y Fan release! Meriel Field, originally from North Wales, has also persuaded the rest of the band to sing and there are some notable harmony vocals from Linda Simmonds and Kate Strudwick on songs such as âSi Hei Lwli Mabiâ, âMoliannwnâ and an especially tender version of a traditional Welsh song known far beyond our borders :- âAr Hyd Y Nosâ, which breaks new ground for Allan Yn Y Fan by featuring an exquisite arrangement for string quartet.
Allan Yn Y Fan has not deserted the instrumental tradition with this album though â the band are heard at full throttle on âTressle Bridge/Tenpenny Bit/Thunderheadâ and a quirky version of two English tunes :- âAbbotâs Bromley Horn Dance Tune/Jump at the Sun.â Critical acclaim for the bandâs earlier releases was forthcoming for the quality of the bandâs own compositions and âTrosnantâ features some great originals by accordionist Chris Jones (Castell Thomas + Madam Mayor + Ms. Gina Morgan), whilst flautist Kate Strudwick, inspired by our rehearsal location for the album, has composed the title track :- âTrosnantâ - the awesome beauty of the Brecon Beacons encapsulated in a four minute soundscape! Gems from the Welsh traditional canon are not overlooked :- âAbergenniâ is from the unusual Welsh stately/courtly realm whist the album opens with âPibddawns Gwyr / Y Gelynnen.â
âTrosnantâ features twelve tracks and marks the further development of a band maturing into one of Walesâ finest musical exports and consolidating itsâ reputation as Walesâ best Celtic band of the 21st century.

GREAT CELTIC MUSIC :” TROSNANT” THE ALLAN YN Y FAN.
Steam Pie Records are delighted to announce the release on 27th July of Trosnant, the third album by Gwent (South Wales) based band Allan Yn Y Fan.
Like their previous highly acclaimed albums, the Allan Yn Y Fan repeat the achieved result by a long and accurate work, right through the winter 2008-the last spring, in the Dylan Fowler’s Albergavenny Studio, which shares all along their production values with the famous quintet.
It needs to point out,in these last years, how great has been the interest about the celtic sound, harmonies often deemed as Irish or Scottish music, that really extend their own roots in the linguistic and expansionist world of English Culture.
In particular when the Celtic people’s main stem had occupied some areas in the west Europe, from the northern Scottish Isles, Scotland, Wales with a side of Ireland, so the Cornwall, the Isle of Man and going down in the south, the Bay of Biscay,in Galicia, in the Asturias, reaching the Portugal.
The lode of the People, English speaking, enrich to extend the Celtic Tradition in the United States, where its sound harmonize well with bluegrass genre,in New Scotland and even in Patagonia,in southern Argentina.
A so very important cultural heritage contains the musical sample handed down in Gaelic language,so unique and different from the today English speaking, slightly protect nowdays and often brought back in the Wales musical Culture.
These people, I think, more than every other are defending with great passion this old tradition.
“Trosnant” features twelve tracks and marks the further development of a band maturing into one of Wales’ finest musical exports and consolidating its’ reputation as Wales’ best Celtic band of the 21st century.
The album opens with “Pibddawns Gwyr/Y Gelynnen and really exist right resemblances with their first album better highlighted by the insert in the band of a new member, vocalist and fiddler, Meriel Field, so as by the other components’ new tunes.
Meriel Field, originally from North Wales, has also persuaded the rest of the band to sing and there are some notable harmony vocals from Linda Simmons and Kate Strudwick on songs such as “Si Hei Lwli Mabi”, “Moliannwn” and an especially tender version of a traditional Welsh song far beyond british borders titled “Ar Hyd Y Nos”featured by an exquisite arrangement for string quartet, preluding new courses to their own harmonies.
Allan Yn Y Fan with this work has not deserted their instrumental tradition, appearing at full throttle on “Tressle Bridge/Tenpenny Bit/Thunderhead” and a quirkly version of two English tunes “Abbot’s Bromley Horn dance Tune/Jump at the Sun”.
Prompt full consent of the reviews for the band’s earlier releases was forthcoming for the quality of the band’s own compositions, is now reappointing by the same distinctive features of this new “TROSNANT”.
Don’t leave aside whilst flautist Kate Strudwick harmonies, inspired and excited by the rehearsal location for the album who composed a so great beauty Trosnant’s title track, which tells of a small house on Brecon Beacons (a mountain range in the Southern Wales) encapsulated in a four minute soundscape.
A peaceable follow one after the other of pieces, included some great originals by accordionist Chris Jones “Castel Thomas/Madam Mayor/Ms.Gina Morgan together with gems from the Welsh tradition such as “Abergenni” is from the unusual and refined stately courtly realm.
