Inspired by the great free jazz duos of Ed Blackwell and Don Cherry, as well as Kentucky fiddling, Sam and Aaron weave together a puzzling and ecstatic narrative of wandering among the wreckage of improvisation. This record marks their first as a duo. It has 11 tracks that range from energy Appalachian free jazz to more contemplative requiems for celesta and banjo. Fiddle and Drum is Sam Amidon and Aaron Siegel.

Aaron Siegel is a composer, artist and percussionist who writes experimental music that lies at the intersection of abstraction and intuition. He produces concert events and recordings involving his own music and collaborations with other members of the experimental arts community. His work ranges from solo compositions and chamber music to improvised ensembles and collaborative theater pieces. He performs with Memorize the Sky, Anthony Braxton and the Aaron Siegel Ensemble.
