When looking for appropriate music for my baby, I had a difficult time finding music that was sonically sound. Most classical music that I encountered had complex orchestration that was too overpowering for newborn ears. However, wanting to reproduce the positive impact that classical music has on the development of young children, I have created motifs that are more conducive for newborn ears. With Baby In Mind is designed for babies from birth to toddlerhood.

At one year old, this project had a profound impact on my daughter. While listening in the car, she hummed her favorite parts. I couldn't believe how much With Baby In Mind affected her creative and intellectual development.

Now at 4 years old, my daughter can read, write, add and subtract. Her reading teacher is amazed at her ability to concentrate and focus.

BIO
Ashera J. Powell (formally Jermaine C. Powell) has dreamed of being a musician and composer ever since she was a child. Born and reared in the âWindy Cityâ of Chicago, she was influenced by all forms of music ranging from the provocative lyrics of Sting and the Police to the timeless soul of Earth, Wind & Fire. Never allowing her preferences to be defined by what is culturally acceptable or cliché, these and other artists helped to shape the hub of her musical diversity.

Spending part of her undergraduate studies at Howard University as a chemistry major, Ashera quickly realized that the sciences didnât fulfill her, so she auditioned for the Fine Arts Department. At this institute of higher learning, she played all types of music ranging from classical to jazz and with perseverance completed her degree in music.

Though a professional flutist, Ashera began to develop a talent for music composition. Her ability extends beyond tacking notes on a page. She expresses the truths of life whether happy, sad or just plain ordinary. Simply stated, she cares about thoughts and feelings - yours, mine and those she will never meet.

Ashera credits the support of her family as a major source of strength and fortitude. This strength is captured in Asheraâs debut project, With Baby In Mind, a tribute to newbie mothers and their babies.

Ashera has joined her local Musicianâs Union, performed on the soundtrack of a Tyler Perry film, worked with Eric Benèt, Dave Young (produced by Raphael Saadiq), Emily Bell, and the legendary arranger, conductor, producer and composer Benjamin Wright,just to name a few.

With this work, Jermaine C. Powell has indeed spread her wings and flown away to another level of music creativity. Her uncomplicated tunes with relaxing melodies encourage lighthearted play. "Awakenings" brings up images of sunbeams dancing through the window in early morning. The room gradually fills with light, and the little one wakes to sheer musical delight.

"Joelle" and "Everlasting Love," both lullabies, are filled with luscious harmonies and pure melodies that suggest warmth and love. The strings provide soothing sleepy time feelings while the glockenspiels remind all of us of the child within.

The melodic yet simplistic vocal "Your Voice" conveys unconditional love and the tender union that exist between mother and baby.

This music is a wonderful gift from a mother to all children both young and not so young!

Just wanted to thank you again for the great baby music cd! My son loves it!!! Our favorite track is #6 - not sure of the name, but it's the best one to lull Jake to sleep. We play it right before nap time and it totally knocks him out and soothes him. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who has a baby.
