It all started as a dare really.
Something would take place within the heart of jason in the spring of 2002 that would forever alter the way he perceived faith, the âAmerican dreamâ, and music. It was a challenge. The temptation was conceived out of a heart of having what the world had to offer him, and it still not being enough. Born from a simple family in Harrah, Oklahoma, jason would find the meaning of compassion without asking to be returned. However, it would be during later in life where he seemed to apply the least of that which he had witnessed as a child. The conflict within would remain until one day realizing the impact and response to music in someoneâs life; literally changing someone, be it better or worse.
âThe goal was to take moments in song, around a span of a couple years, and take songs from great times, as well as songs wrought with desperation and written almost as a therapyâ , says jason. Within the ten songs, Sing stands as the most overbearing song of gratefulness, exploding out of the box musically, while diving into half-time midway through the songs to remind us âif you can part the seas/youâll take care of meâ while songs such as You talks about going through life taking for granted that someone whoâs gone on to the ever after âhow can it be/though I canât repay you, youâve given to meâ. From there we go all across the spectrum of issues from people who say theyâre alright yet struggling (Fine), learning that today is a faded guarantee (Tomorrow), and even struggling with contemplating letting go of someone (Find A Way).
What you will find with Where I Belong is that genre becomes quickly masked by an open heart. The writing doesnât become slave to product, but stands as free spirited lyrics walking on rock solid musical arrangements. The quill has been driven deeper to pen stronger meanings, while particular attention was given to melody. Take it as a CD, or a testimony, this release has not only jasonâs experiences, but also sings a chorus of our lives, both in loves and in losses.
