OK then, here's the history lesson: - JD and the Longfellows came together towards the end of 2005 when members of Fruit Machine Blues, Big Girls Blouse and the Nathan Persad Band, all helped Josh âLongfellowâ Davis (ex Macavity's Cat amongst others) record an EP - Summer Drinking.
Members are Clare âShortfellowâ Portman (vox and washboard); Gemma âStringfellowâ Cumming (violin and vox); Nathan Persad âDot Com Fellowâ (vox, lead guitar and harmonica); Malcolm âStickfellowâ Gaynor (drums, vox and album producer) and obviously Josh Davis (yelling and acoustic guitar)!
After a quick poll, they found they were partly English-Canadian-Irish-Scottish-Bajan-Spanish, although Josh refuses to declare his background after some ongoing dispute with the immigration authorities!
The band first performed live in January 2006 and the live act sometimes involves spectacular stunts (when we can think them up), drinking competitions (when we can afford the prices) special guest stars (very large drunken scary men who insist they are friends of the band but no one has ever met) and loads of audience participation (especially those with empty beer glasses and loud voices).
Based in Lewisham, SE London and tending to hang out at Orange & Blue studios, the band have now played a handful of gigs (although at the time of writing we are being booked left, right and centre) and they finally managed to release the new 14-track album 'Confessions' in August (funnily enough recorded at Orange and Blue). Brand new original tracks about such things as drinking, philanders, virgins, adulterers, whiskey, sermons, sadomasochism, nuns, hanging, judges, bigamy, birthday suits, vicars, drugs, holiday nightmares, bishops, the mile high club, lucky bullets, vigilantes, gambling, wedding nightmares, celebrity look-a-likes, unrequited love (not sure how that got in there - Ed!) and plenty more drinking - just a normal day at the office in fact!
Instruments on the album include drums, bass, violin, guitars, piano, trumpets, harmonica, Hammond organ, six-part harmonies, yelling, percussion and most importantly the washboard!
We hope you like it!
