Sunburn "exists somewhere between a SoCal beach party and an Allman Brothers show"
11 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Folk Rock, ROCK: Jam-band
Details:
In a world that seems to grow increasingly toxic around us, The John Howland Trio are musical organic farmers. Their debut Sunburn is an album of catchy songs harvested up from the roots of real experiences and influences. Itâs serious and playful. Itâs big slide riffs and intimate acoustic sing-alongs. Itâs simple and sophisticated. And it just feels genuine.
In 2004 John Howland moved from Boston to San Francisco for a change of scene after his east coast jazz/fusion band dissolved. Disenchanted with relying on others, John set to writing new songs on guitar, and slide, with the intent to play them solo. After seeing Xavier Rudd perform at Michael Frantiâs annual Power to the Peaceful festival, Weissenborn style lap steel was integrated as a vital part of the mix, as well as the inspiration to get ideas across in a uniquely personal way.
âItâs been an experimental time. A blur of notebooks, instruments, and coffee! Speaking of stimulants, being constantly lost in a new place, especially one as beautiful as the bay area, has definitely allowed for creatively fertile timesâ.
In 2005 old friend and band mate, Brad Harbidge, also decided to make the east/west trek and, with the addition of bay area native Bob Menacho on bass, the John Howland Trio was formed.
Live, the band has been described as âexisting somewhere between a SoCal beach and an Allman Brothers showâ, mixing great songs with an improvisational spirit. For three people, The John Howland Trio makes a big sound!
