Details:
Simply put, Boss Keanâs Ditch is everything that a rock band from the American South should be. The band, much like the region they hail from, thrive on the dynamic of things that seem like opposites working together in harmony. A little too country for the heaviest rock crowd; too much rock for the country purists, but somewhere in that gray area of Southern rock this band has found a sound and an appeal all their own. From the first word spoken or the first note played, you can sense that there is more going on than just whatâs on the surface, and at the same time you understand that Boss Keanâs Ditch arenât trying to hide anything at all.
The band formed during the winter of 2007 in Richmond, Virginia. Singer/guitarist Doug Gibson and drummer Shane Kellis had parted ways with hard rock/heavy metal act Bullistic after two albums and three years of touring throughout the mid-Atlantic region, and guitarist Ryan Nuttle was looking for a new project after parting with regional rockers Kabura. The three had often discussed starting a more country influenced project, and the timing worked out perfectly for Boss Keanâs Ditch to get up and running. Bassist Tommy Schoppe had been playing with the Christian punk band True Liberty, but knew Shane from a previous cover band, and came on board soon after the band formed. The band played their first show at the Canal Club in Richmond in January of 2008. Not long after that first show, a weekend jam session with another member of Shane and Tommyâs old cover band, guitarist Jimmy Cole, led to two new songs, and Boss Keanâs Ditch has boasted a
three guitar attack and all the best of rock and roll intensity since show number two.
In 2008 Boss Keanâs Ditch has continued to build a solid local following through bar shows and club gigs including a June headlining spot at the National Theater. The band has also branched out regionally for shows in North Carolina, New Jersey, and Tennessee. This winter will bring the release of their debut album, âA Mountain to Climbâ and further regional touring. âA Mountain to Climbâ is 9 tracks of pure rock music with both mass appeal and artistic integrity. These are songs about life, love, and dreams that have either come true or fallen by the wayside, and the band delivers live with an easy chemistry showcased through party atmosphere energy. Boss Keanâs Ditch are new school outlaws and classic rogues, so keep an eye out because theyâre going to be bringing the party your way, and you wonât want to miss it.
