Unique is the one word that describes such a vibrant and talented artist by the name of Jekarra Gaines. Jekarra is only sixteen years old with the voice of a seasoned vocalist , that would knock anyone off their feet .The soulful energy she possesses is projected through her phenomenal vocal range. Jekarra being a spawn of a musical family, was raised singing in the church choir, her mother ,Carol Conklin, molded her into the young vocalist she is today.
Jekarra is currently a student at Hephzibah High School in Augusta, Georgia which she is ranked fifteen in her class. Jekarra asked her mother if she would buy her a web cam to record some videos on
You Tube , not knowing that it would change the path of her life. After recording thirty videos on You Tube and getting over 600,000 rave reviews from viewers all over the world. She has performed in several talent shows in several cities such as, New York , Columbia ,South Carolina, Washington DC. , Atlanta ,Georgia, .She has also been a contestant on the nine week industry talent show, âI Wanna B A Star 2â, at the âApache Caféâ in Atlanta Georgia. Jekarra was also chosen to perform in the ,â Lincolon 2.0â, Pre- inaugural Ball in Washington,DC., honoring president Barrack Obama.
Jekarra was the featured artist to perform in Augustaâs first annual community awareness celebration , honoring the US. She was fortunate to acquire several sponsors in her performance, raising over 1,600 dollars for that performance. She has been hired to play the part of a spoiled seven-teen year old daughter of a rich lawyer in the play called â Forty Acres And Who Stole My Mule â in Waltersboro, South Carolina on May,30th ,31st. Jekarra has also successfully finished recording her Double single âNever Enough â and â Dance With Meâ and has obtained online distribution through CD âBaby which will be sold on Apple- itunes , Rhapsody, Amazon ,Napster ,E-music ,Verizon V- cast ,Liquid Digital Media,Pay Play Audiolunchbox ,Groupie Tunes, and Ruckus.The talented vocalist has performed in the industry showcase called âWhoâs got that Vibeâ created and produced by âCarol Oâ held at Café 290 in Atlanta GA. twice in May, winning 1st place and then being a featured artist the following week. She is currently scheduled to perform in the grand finale May, 27th.
Jekarra is known to emulate such singers as Beyonce , Alecia Keys, Mariah Carey, and Whitney Houston. Also, to demonstrate even more of a passion for her music , she writes and arranges most of her own songs .She states â I want to be a positive role model for the younger generation and I
want to sing and write songs they can relate to in life without sending the wrong message. I hope to represent a classy version of the new hip- hop/ pop style with soulful R&B music. A lot of people my age sing with no passion , I sing with passion from the depths of my soul because singing brings me joyâ.
