'Tonto Flores' is more of an idea than an actual band, but at the heart of the concept is a couple of guys who like to make music.

In truth, the common elements of most anything done in the name of 'Tonto Flores' involves Brett Rawalt, his friend Michael Holtz, and then whoever else they are hanging out with at that moment. Brett excels at roping other musical friends into participating just enough to be associated with the musical collective. They all play multiple instruments and pitch in enough to make a musically rich and diverse bunch of songs.

"The bug is dead" refers to the very first complete sentence Brett's daughter spoke, setting an absurd yet profound tone for the record. A toddler - just learning words at the beginning of her life - remarking on the ending of anotherâs. The songs are often playful, and occasionally morbid. The disc carries some seriously literate lyrics pondering heavy thoughts mixed with a weird amalgamation of genres that takes more than a few unexpected turns.

Tonto Flores bounces from alt rock, bluesy jam to white boy rap. They even throw in an ode to spaghetti western soundtracks and an homage to 80s butt rock ballads. But they all do it from the point of view of an acoustic indie rock band that sounds like they are having fun.
