There is nothing groundbreaking about being a songwriter from the south... however, when good original music finds you, it doesn't much matter. Having been compared to everyone from Guster to Edwin to Ryan Adams to Lucero... Mikel Grubb continues to hit on a sound that somehow finds its own quiet (and sometimes ass-kicking) niche in the category.

After 2004's "Set Sail," which was put together alongside famed Knoxville musicians Laith Keilany, Andre Hayter, and Nathan Barrett (which recieved rave reviews and notoriety from newspapers, radio stations and magazines in the region), Grubb has been in the studio again for the majority of Summer 2006, this time solo, and this time with no barriers... and he has come up with something notably new and different. The record, "Count The Days" employs varying instrumentation, programming, and a hint of the live show that is very different from previous efforts. Parting ways with the need for Daphne, his banged up black acoustic, on every track breeds a whole new type of Mikel Grubb record.

"I like to record just to see what I can do with what I have around me. Sometimes it bombs and sometimes it works, but all the time its fun for me," says Grubb of his new-found desire to branch away from the singer/songwriter label and try producing on his own. "So this time, on this record, I played all the instruments, recorded, and mixed it myself. So now that its out, here goes."

As always, the live show is the most talked-about part of Grubb's music, and after a year away from touring, he plans a Southeastern US tour to support "Count The Days" this fall.
