Details:
Tony Vic is one of the most anticipated rappers in the Bay Area. His flowing skills, above and beyond, have been influenced by a variety of artists who are greats and not just trendsetters, including Marvyn Gaye, Jay-Z, Michael Jackson, and Tupac. But the biggest influence for Tony Vic is his brother Kevin, whoâs been his idol. For about 11 years now, Tony Vic has truly been blowing us away. His faith and inspirations from God guides him through his passionate filled career. He says, âI knew I had a blessing on my life to perform and bring crowds together since like age seven.â This becomes apparent, since Tony Vicâs talents emerges from performing in theater, stage plays, and even commercialsâall from east Oakland to Los Angeles. And now, as a grown and talented artist, Tony Vic keeps it general: âItâs not about turfs with me.â
In his new album, titled Testimonials, Tony Vic shares with us actual experiences that individuals can come to understand. He says, âNot everyone can relate to wearing 50 thousand chains, or pushing a Bently or a Benz.â What most of us do understand is driving around in a âbucket like itâs a Lexus,â or breaking off a rough relationship with someone. He works with hip-hop producers Kevin Choice (whom produced half the album), Dame Taylor and Aristotle, producers who Tony Vic believes are some of the best in their field. And working in that field isnât easy. For Tony Vic, struggles are endless: he says heâs proving himself to âpeople, to God, and to my family. Not being out on the streets selling dope.â He isnât about struggling on the streets and following trends because, simply put, his âdreams are hard enough.â
When Tony Vic writes, he needs to be in a moodâone that rises from emotions or pains. This lyricist does not let stress keep him down. He actually feeds from it to help him strive and work harder. When asked what makes him different from other rappers, he says, âIâm not afraid to be myself, and talk about my insecurities, my heart, my struggles, my pain, my love, my life, my tears, and my fears.â And so even when he writes a party joint, he needs to be inspired by anything thatâll trigger those universal motifs shared by individuals. And sharing this poetry comes about easily for Tony Vic through the mic. He feels as though the microphone doesnât judge: âIt doesnât hate on you, it wonât clown on you or classify you. It just listens.â
