I don't remember not being able to sing. When I was a little girl and my dad had his friends over for fish fries, they would form barbershop quartets later in the evening and would invite me to sing with them. I would sing harmony, even at an early age.
Several of my uncles sang and my uncle Eugene was a choir director in many churches almost all his life. I also direct choirs and teach voice in class situations or on an individual basis.
I have dreamed of doing a CD like this for the last 20 years. Since I now have the financial capabilities, I decided it is never too late. This project took about a year and a half to complete.
I was so fortunate to have come in contact with the person who did the arrangements and all the professional musicians he knew, personally, to accompany in this endeavor.
I am an opera lover and was fortunate to have sung in the San Francisco Opera Chorus, a fantastic experience. I have worked with the American Musical Theater in San Jose and other theaters in and around San Jose and have had small parts in several movies. I have a manager and agent both in San Francisco and Los Angeles and have appeared in commercials and industrial films, have done voice-overs, but mostly I love to sing.
One of the main reasons I wanted to do this CD with the kinds of songs I chose is to bring back the easy listening music I knew growing up in the 40's and ealry 50's. It seems that all that we hear, nowadays, is music with a fast beat and singers who shout. I think people need that relaxing sound and background music to bring them down to earth after a busy day. As a matter of fact, I have a friend who plays rock and roll all day when he is on the job. He told me, when he gets home from work, he relaxes with my CD. That is one of the biggest compliments I could have gotten.
I chose these particular songs, first of all, because they are love songs; second, I could sing them softly; third, this is some of the music that was popular in my teen years. I am romantic and wanted to do a romantic compilation of music.
I think I accomplished my goal.
