FOLK: Folk Blues, COUNTRY: Country Folk
Details:
Keith Adams is one long drink 0' water who writes, sings and plays songs about hard traveling, good friends and relations, romantic complications, and the simple pleasures and pains of daily life.
Keith hails from the Maritimes but often works out of Toronto. Whether he's kickin' around Kensington Market, Cape Breton, or someplace in between, you'll invariably find him out on the streets, or hunkered down in the local bars, clubs and cafes, hangin' out with his fellow characters. Because that's where real life is lived, and where the best songs and stories are at.
Keith is a natural-born songwriter and storyteller. He perfectly captures the restless drifter's spirit of adventure when the rut gets too deep: Goin' on a trip, no cash, no car. He also nails the big-city blues on the head; documents the spooky dangers of the superhighway; describes the challenge of remaining unaffected in these post-modern times; and tells the tale of that crazy, happy-go-lucky rounder known to one and all only as "Uncle Willie."
From Halifax, NS, to Austin, TX, to the Caribbean, his guitar a constant companion, Keith sings his songs in a raspy, throaty voice that can 't help but make people want to listen. His vocal phrasing is not unlike that of the young Van Morrison - stretching here, bending there, but always doing what's right for the song, and what comes naturally. His chosen styles range from acoustic folk to ragtime to jazzy changes to straight blues, but it all comes out his own original way. And he's no slouch on the guitar, either.
Simply put: As a singer, player, and especially as a writer, Keith Adams has got the goods. He's the kind of character that you run across at a house party, strumming a tune, and you can't believe that anybody who writes such great songs, plays 'em so fine, and sings 'em so soulfully is sittin' around a kitchen table instead of packing out the local clubs or touring across the country.
Either way, Keith Adams' talents are undeniable.
