Born and raised in Metro D.C., by age 15 Katâs commitment to performing convinced her father to give her his â68 Martin and she began writing songs. She moved to the Hudson Valley of New York for college, and ended up staying in the area ten years. There she nurtured her growing repertoire of folk-inspired skills and a loyal Northeast following: first with popular bluegrass band, Grass, and then with the bare and moving solo show she is known for.

Kat Mills stands out in the world of acoustic women as soon as she starts singing. This rich alto voice is the foundation of her sound. The original tunes walk a tightrope between laughter and tears: sometimes hard-driving commentaries, sometimes mellow reflections or funny stories. A bit of twang here, a taste of smoky soul there, and always from the heart. Her music elevates the mood and invites thought without beating listeners over the head.
