Where do you go to find the song in your heart?
Are you searching for love and meaning in your life? Then check out Melody of My Heart, Kate Grace's debut CD. 13 original songs, reminiscent of Sara McLachlan, Joan Baez and Faith Hill reflect our longing for dreams lived, loved, lost and found again. In folk/new country style, Kate takes you on a musical journey of inspiration, straight from the heart.
Kate Grace is a folk/new country singer and songwriter, who just can't stop doing what she loves. Side benefits include laughing out loud and increased creativity.
Kate grew up in the Chicago area, living through the era of leisure suits and avocado appliances. Somehow, this did not crush her creative spirit, and she began writing songs at the age of 15, while teaching herself to play guitar. She was part of a select group chosen to participate in an International Festival of High School Choirs held in Mexico City in the late '70's, and was a member of a traveling Madrigal Singers group as well. Working with a locally respected voice coach and Choir Director, she began to believe she had something to offer the music world. She sang several solos in various choral concerts in those early years, and played often for local parties and occasions. One of her favorite roles was playing the youngest daughter in Fiddler on The Roof in a community performance.
Once she headed off to college, she began writing new songs more than ever. She was studying to be a wildlife biologist (for a day job!), but never lost her excitement in singing and writing new music. During her first year at University of Wisconsin, she played locally, and continued to sing at weddings, events and for various church services.
She moved to St. Louis, transferring to St. Louis University to be able to work with injured hawks, owls and eagles at what is now called The World Bird Sanctuary. She met her husband Bob there, while feeding baby owls every 3 hours through the night, and there was a pause in her musical career. They married and started a family, with Kate at the ripe old age of 20, and this took center stage for the next decade (thank you, Ben, Matt, Bobby and Anne for being in my life). Now, in her newly reinvented life, she is pursuing her love of music with wild abandon. Don't you just love a comeback story?
Without following the dreary "rules" of the music industry (no need to suffer, starve and work your way up!) she is bringing her dream to life. Melody of My Heart is her first CD, and tells the story of her journey so far. Since releasing the CD in August 2003, she has been steadily making more live appearances, and has written several new songs. Look for them soon on song downloads on her website, or on next year's CD.
What matters to Kate is that her music comes straight from the heart.
