Prepare your mind for a soulful journey of stories told in song. Katie writes from a place that everyone can relate to whether it be warm and captivating, poignant or edgy, her music will always leave you âleaning inâ for more. Her first solo release âevery little thingâ is textured with acoustic strings and pennywhistle, capturing a hint of the emerald road of her heritage. Her style, unto her own, is deeply influenced by the artist of her youth. Katie muses, âThe true essence of a folk song is marked by its sustained life as it travels from generation to generation.â "After more than 30 years of songwriting and performing my fans and family carry on this legacy for me."
Born and raised in southern California, Katie was steeped in music from a very early age. At 14 she began writing songs the first to protest the Vietnam War. And thus her journey began. Katieâs musical path spans form the West L.A.âs famous Troubadour; opening for Merle Haggard at the Silverthorn Resort at Shasta Lake, CA; to Sisters, Oregon Folk Festival where she has been a two-time finalist in the Singer/Songwriter competition. She was awarded first and second place in 2004 for the 'Folk Song of the Year' by the Central Oregon Songwriterâs Association.
Cavanaugh has distilled her catalogue down to 11 songs for the newly release CD âevery little thing.â She describes the creation of the CD as âan eclectic collection of styles within the genre of FOLK.â Working with Soundsmith Studio, she and her engineer Clay Smith created a multi-instrumental album, layered with dynamic harmonies which seep through this seamless collection of traditional and contemporary style Folk music. Seeking an âorganicâ feel to the songs, Cavanaugh binds it all together with her strong yet sensitive voice and solid rhythm guitar. âMy travels with the Muse have been a mindful yet joyful journey.â âWhat a ride.â
