Kurt South is a veteran of the Ft. Worth, TX Americana and alt- country scene who has been touring regionally for several years. His eclectic style and crafty writing have been garnering much acclaim in Texas, which Seven Songs readily demonstrates. Stripped bare to just his voice and guitar, you hear nothing but South in a room with some of his best songs. Itâs an audio snapshot of a place and time that navigates much musical territory, from country to rock to blues to folk and beyond. Which is what South is all about. Put a little bit of everything that youâve ever heard into it and forge a sound of your own. While growing up in Virginia, South listened to everything from Bruce Springsteen and John Hiatt to Cracker and Flatt & Scruggs. Upon his arrival in Texas, he began soaking up the rich blues and country scenes of Ft. Worth. When the time came to create his own material, he reached deep into his head to find bits and pieces of all of the stuff that had stopped him in his tracks to put into his own music. All kinds have since gravitated to South and his simple, raw, honest sound. Young, old, hippies, rednecks, rockers and more get what heâs doing. Just how he likes it. âMusic is one of the only things that can really get people on the same page. I know a lot of folks who I never would have found any common ground with if we hadnât have been into a certain artist or type of music. Itâs nice to look out into a crowd and see all kinds of faces,â he says. âIâm kinda schizophrenic myself, so I guess its fitting.â Fitting indeed.
