Kurt Blackmore: September 2, 1965 - February 19, 2004

While meditating, Kurt Blackmore imagined himself a disembodied spirit, soaring above mountain peaks. It was this daydream that lead to the inspiration for the composition Sierra, the first track on the album. It was not uncommon for Kurt to meditate on ideas. He enjoyed focusing deep thoughts on challenges such as work and composing music.

He was a man who was at peace within the boundaries of life; boundaries such as physical limitations, cultural and social norms. This is not to say that he passively sat back and let life have its way with him. He had a wit and a verbal jab like Sugar Ray Leonard's left hook. You never say it coming, but when it landed, man it stung!

He was also constantly searching for spiritual meanings in life, though not always in the conventional Western sense. During one recording session early in our composing days, and after some liquid libation started the creative juices flowing, he suggested that we lay down a groove, then record a track of us reciting some Hindu Upanishad verses over it. Deep.

It was this combination of contentment and curiosity that both defined the man, and his music.

We hope you enjoy listening to Kurt Blackmore's music as much as he enjoyed creating it.
