Born in 1961 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Sergio Olivé has been a piano student since the age of eight. He took lessons with several private teachers, at the âCollegium Musicum de Buenos Airesâ and at the âConservatorio Municipal de Música de Buenos Airesâ, where he studied Classical and contemporary piano for nine years, and where he got his degree.
Besides his academic studies, He has studied woodwind instruments and bagpipe and performed Latin-American and Celtic Popular Music since his childhood, so he began little by little to combine folk tunes with his classical knowledge.
With this combination of Classical, popular and contemporary influences he moulded a varied repertoire of material based mainly in the combination of Latin-American and Celtic Music.
In Argentina, worked as a Music Teacher and played piano in several bands for about ten years (he was fifteen years old when he started) and performed classical and contemporary concerts at places like âTeatro Colón (Salón Dorado)â, âTeatro San Martínâ, âCentro Cultural Buenos Airesâ and âBiblioteca Lincolnâ, among others.
Living in Porto Alegre since 1988, he works as a Music Teacher, composer, arranger and, of course, pianist and piper, having collected several awards. These include awards for Best Soloist, Best Arranger, Best Music for Theatre and Best Movie Soundtrack.
In 1995 he released his first instrumental CD for piano solo of his own compositions named âDe Tabas e de Castelosâ.
In 2001 he released his second CD of his compositions with a band, in which he played bagpipe, keyboards and a variety of primitive instruments, entitled âHistórias de Sonhos e Coisas que Voamâ.
