"To quote myself," Sue Fink says, " 'It's a fine line / Between the waking and the dream...' "
That's a line from "Fine Line," a song on Sue's "Damsel In Distress" album. On "Thoughts at an Intersection," Sue's newest CD, she takes that concept a step further. "Sure, there's that fine intersection between the dream and when you first awake... but there's all kinds of intersections where we find ourselves. There's reality and the dream; there's the dream and the dreamer; there's deciding which road to take... all kinds of literal and figurative intersections that we all explore, consciously or not, every day."
Sue has divided the twelve songs into two "sides": Side A, "Dream/Awake," includes the first six songs and Side B, "Awake/Dream" encompasses the last six. When asked the difference between the two, Sue says, "Not much... and that would be the point!"
No matter whether Sue is making light of unsolicited advice-givers or people who don't see the warning signs, or wrestling with love, and time, slipping away, these songs are very visual and heartfelt. "Tracking System" came entirely from remembered fragments of a dream: "I had an image of the old man, lost and alone; I had the words 'Tracking System.' From those gifts, I determined to tell the old man's story." Also included are the much-requested "Boys are So Sensitive" and "Bad Heart."
The musicians add grace, depth, and beauty to these songs: John Abbey, Larry Kohut, Bob Lizik (bass); Tony Dale, Jim Hines (percussion); Jeff Frankel, Noah Zacharin (guitar); Jessica Fogle, Bob Long (keyboards); Meg Lauterbach (cello); Kathryn Lake (violin); Bruce Roper (of Sons of the Never Wrong -- mandocello).
Highly recommended for car trips and contemplation!

*** Please note: There are TWO Sue Fink singer/songwriters! If you're looking for the well-known Sue Fink from the West coast... I'm not her. We're both funny, both nice, both Sue Fink, but not the same person. Go to cdbaby.com/cd/acchorale2 to hear "Angel City Chorale: Why Walk When You Can Fly?", directed (and founded) by the other Sue Fink. ***
