dear friends. This is Andrew Jackson a.k.a. Billy Bob I have been asked to
write a review
about the, Gary's country, album. Let me say that I was a country DJ
for many years, so they chose me to pick songs out of the
Gary Matthews songbook. To choose 12 of the greatest country
songs ever written. And I said I would. I first heard of Gary Matthews
as a gospel song writer as a matter of fact I had ordered two of his albums
Out Of Cd Baby. The Healer, album and his now famous, Lord you did it again' album
these were the kind of inspirational songs you just couldn't buy
or hear on the everyday gospel radio stations .
however I had no idea that this man could write
these kinds of country-western songs. Songs that are emotional.
Songs about worlds in motion, pickem up trucks, and Paris Hilton?
Songs about the Mona Lisa, an early-morning shadows to mention a few.
Somehow he has found a way to reach into all of our souls, and extract
something good out of every one of us. And then there's of course
the hell raising evil nature of us all, where he writes about
setin the woods on fire. The blanket on the ground
and letting her hair hang down. And I found these songs in his songbook.
And I was able get them assembled into the Gary's country, album on
cd baby. So whether you are listening to the number one song
on this album. Gary wrote a song, I find a particular joy in just
listening to this story race through your mind. We were down
in New Orleans search in for a dream when we found ourselves with nothin
to do so Gary wrote a song, called the countryfied rock 'n roll blues.
that's so knocked me out. I said OK I've got to have that number
1 on the album. Somehow, some way, somewhere this album
takes the listener to places they have been before and could
never forget .places of better times and better days. When it was fun
to just have fun. Of Duty and honor, When we could laugh and runaway.
When there really was, wine and roses. And romance on a
hot Saturday night. And I love the way he wrote ' United we stand'
where he teams up with a very beautiful Jennifer, to stop a divorce.
songs like this will very likely make Gary Matthews the essential
American country icon. And then looking back there was a time
when Gary was under pressure to come up with a song
while in Nashville they were due to go in the next morning
and they wanted one more last song for the session.So he sits down
and writes a song about the islands. Lost love, a broken heart
the gentle ocean breeze that's telling him to go.That song' Garys Island'
takes me away every time I hear it to some far-off dream
world of palm trees beautiful days and nights of a tropical paradise.
