Ambassador Junior Lion â The Journey
He is being described as the second-coming of Nascio Fontaineâ¦the energy...the purityâ¦the mastery of the rhythm and rhyme with the consciousness of Bob Marley.
Ambassador Junior Lion is no copycat. This is the original Soualigan Son with a message for the world.
The Beginning
Ambassador was born Elliot McCarrell Laurence on February 19, 1980 on French St. Martin. It was almost guaranteed he would follow the legacy started by his mother Veronica Francis, a singer and songwriter. His older brother, Pompette âLionâ, a chanter and dancer whose icons were Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Big Youth and others, gave Junior Lion the early inspiration and love for Reggae music. Added to that legacy are his sisters Lydia and Shantell Laurence, both international Zouk singers.
He begun singing at the age of five in his church choir and by 13 he was writing his own songs. Junior Lionâs first group was Massive Crew, which he formed with his friend Shabba Love and they performed at local high schools and colleges. His versatility was apparent early on. Junior Lionâs ability to rap, chant, and sing in different languages gave him the moniker âBET âBest Entertainer of Timesâ.
The Journey
After choosing the Rastafarian way of life in 1998, he began looking deeper and to find more purpose in music rather than just entertainment. The group, Jah Nation came into being and Junior Lionâs journey began.
By 1999 he was opening for French International Reggae Artist Sael, and in the years to come he added performances with Junior Kelly, Capleton and Beenie Man to his credentials.
In February 2003 Junior Lion went to Jamaica on what he thought was a short trip to make music contacts. This turned into a two-year project to write, produce, and record his first album âThe Journeyâ¦No Matter Whatâ. While in Jamaica he worked with legendary producers such as John Meatley, Cash Flow Records, JR Productions, Black Scorpio, Colly Budd and JB Senior from Big Yard.
Performances followed around Jamaica at Reggae Jam Fest 2005, in Bermuda and in 2006, Junior Lion opened for Beres Hammond back in his homeland, St. Maarten/St. Martin.
The Album
He established his own record label, Starliner Records which released âThe Journeyâ on St. Maarten in February 2006 at Axum Art Café in Philipsburg. He followed this CD launch with a performance with Richie Spice and Kiprich at the French St. Martin Carnival.
His new album is receiving massive airplay on radio stations on St. Maarten/St. Martin, Jamaica, and in the Netherlands. He was recently named rising star of the week for an online
radio station Funx.. nl (Nederlands) and has been added to the playlists of radio station Winn FM (ST.Kitts). Several major performances are being planned for Junior Lion for the remainder of 2006 around the Caribbean, the US, and Europe.
