I'm Not A Pilot began as an outlet for lead vocalist/piano player Mark Glatzel to work out the melodies and songs in his head. In November 2008 Mark recruited his brother Matt Glatzel to play bass and Matt's old bandmate, Steve Vorass, to play drums. A month later, Mark invited Peter Thomas, a cellist with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, to sit in on a few practices. The energy of the four together in one room was electric, and the invitation to sit in turned into an invitation to join the band. Things were clicking. Momentum was building with each wintry practice. Deciding they wanted to capture this energy, the band recorded an EP with J. Christopher Hughes in the spring of 2009. Mastered by Justin Perkins, the EP contains five songs that showcase I'm Not A Pilot's unique sound and gift for melody. But instead of being a musical yearbook to a great six months, the EP signals a beginning. I'm Not A Pilot is playing an EP release at the Miramar on June 5th, as well as shows in Chicago and at the Cornerstone Festival in central Illinois.
