âGraceâ recorded June-September of 2000 in a renovated barn in Loveland Ohio, is the most epansive effort by the Dorff Family thus far, including material from the American and English folk repertoire all the way to choral music from the renaissance and early baroque and even modern pop songs all done in the folk-meets-chamber-music style that makes the Dorff Family so unique. The talents of this family are an impressive array of vocal expertise, deft guitar and piano playing and a few surprises, such as marimba and recorder displayed tastefully and in many different configurations; the haunting aâcapella selections ranging from the rennaisance composer Palestrina to a rare polyphonic native american song, the âSkidegate Lovesongâ. Dan Srâs chilling rendition of Billie Holidayâs classic âGod Bless the Childâ and the dance inducing ragtime of âLog Cabin Bluesâ reside more squarely in the canon of American folk music, but all have a homegrown simplicity and rare honesty that is a trademark of the Dorff family recordings. "Grace" is a great album for the whole family.
