âSolo Wesâ is the second CD of a new solo guitar series by acclaimed jazz guitarist Royce Campbell. This CD is a tribute to Wes Montgomery featuring many of Montgomeryâs well known compositions such as âFour On Six,â âWest Coast Bluesâ, and âRoad Songâ (also known as âOGDâ) combined with some classic standards that were favorites of Wes such as âBody And Soul,â âBesame Mucho,â and Round Midnightâ. Campbell also contributes three originals that he wrote in tribute to Wes.
Although there have been numerous tributes to Wes Montgomery by jazz guitarists what makes this tribute unique is the fact that it is solo guitar. I am not aware of any other guitarists doing a solo guitar Wes Montgomery tribute.
The intimacy of solo guitar creates a warm mood. A masterful tribute by one of the best guitarists of today to one of the best guitarists of the past.
