This is the fifth cd for the Gecko Jazz Project and like the cd, Darwin's Dance, (also availible on CD BABY!), before it, the new cd features six brand new compositions by Bob Grabowski and a stellar cast of musicians! Jim Gasior is the pianist, Jason Carder is on trumpet, Larry Marshall is on drums, and the cd also features Bob on basses and guitars. Joining the band for New Orleans Pt.II are Dante Luciani on trombone and James Cotman on drums.
The Water's Edge is an underwater trip to paradise, and the water vibe is strong. The title cut, Midnight Samba, comes from Bob's study of and travels to Bahia in the North of Brazil. The twisting chordal structures and the extended coda section are all a part of Bahia's great musical legacy. Jesse's Waltz is dedicated to Jesse Jones Jr., a great saxophonist out of Miami that Larry, Bebob, and Jim have worked with for many years and shows a lot of love for Jesse and his music!
New Orleans Pt. II is a tune about the rebirth of New Orleans after Katrina and what the new sounds from the streets might sound like. And the quiet ballad, Sweet Lady's Blues, is the sweet dessert after a feast of many delights.
