Details:
Rev. Harold Johnson grew up in Prichard, Alabama and was called to the ministry in the late spring of 1973. He was a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Leroy Boykin. Soon afterwards, Rev. Johnson was licensed and ordained by Rev. Boykin and served as associate pastor of Central Missionary Baptist Church for many years.
Rev. Johnson always had a heartfelt desire to organize a church in the Prichard area in order to make a difference in the Prichard community. Upon retiring from a long career in insurance sales, Rev. Johnson was fortunate enough to generate funds to purchase the property where the church is currently located.
Rev. Johnson has always had a desire to lend a helping hand to the âunderdog.â He feels that it is important to minister to an individual holisticallyâto meet oneâs social, economical, physical as well as spiritual needs. This influenced the adoption of the church motto, âYou Build A Church By Building A Community.â
Rev. Johnson received the M. O. Beale Award of Merit in September of 1978 for rescuing a cameraman from a local TV station who was trying to get a story on racial upheaval in the Happy Hill community. Rev. Johnson took many youth from the Happy Hill area to Fountain Prison in Atmore, Alabama to see what prison life is like in order to help prevent them from ending up in prison. Some of the youth were even reunited with their fathers who were serving time in the prison at that time.
Rev. Johnson has always had a desire to record christian music. His desire is to produce christian/gospel music that will provide a spiritual enrichment for the listeners. He has plans of one day, developing a music studio to provide an arena for young musicians to record and explore their musical talents.
