Poetess Black Jewel is a native of Jacksonville. She has more than twenty-six years of writing experience, and has been performing poetry locally and abroad in spoken word venues and ministry events since 2001. Black Jewel is also very active in her community where she has ministered her gift at events such as the World of Nations, The Kuumba Festival, and The First Annual Ms. Bright Future Pageant, held at the Historical Ritz Theater and LaVilla Museum. Additionally, she has conducted poetry camps and workshops for local churches, elementary and high schools; and has traveled as far Miami and New York performing in venues such as South Floridaâs âAttack the Mic,â and the WBLS Caribbean-American Bridal Expo, in Manhattan.
